Happy (belated) Birthday, Mr. Jones – Thad Jones wäre am 28. März diesen Jahres 100 Jahre alt geworden und das wollen wir mit einem Flashback Konzert feiern. Die HMT Big Band spielt zu diesem Anlass ein Programm mit Kompositionen und Arrangement von Jones selbst, sowie Titeln, die Mitglieder der Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band komponiert und arrangiert haben.

»Ich mache manches anders als andere«, sagte Jones irgendwann mal über sich selbst. Er spielte und improvisierte auf seine ganz eigene Art. Mit der Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band entwickelte er »eine neue orchestrale Sprache«, für die er immer noch berühmt ist und die auch heute noch in unseren Ohren nachhallt.

Happy (belated) Birthday, Mr. Jones! – Thad Jones would have been 100 on the 28th of March this year and we would like to celebrate that with a flashback concert. For this reason, the HMT Big Band shall play a programme with compositions and arrangements by Jones himself, as well as tracks composed and arranged by members of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band.
“I do things differently to others” Jones said once about himself. He played and improvised in his own entirely unique way. With the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band he developed “a new orchestral language” for which he is still famous and which still resonates in our ears today.
