Anfang der 1960er-Jahre wurden die sogenannten Gastarbeiter*innen aus Anatolien und anderen Gegenden der Türkei von der BRD angeworben. Von Anfang an gab es etwas, dass sie dabei immer begleitet hat: ihre Musik – ein Stück Heimat in der Fremde. Über die Jahre entwickelten sich eigenständige musikalische Richtungen, die es in dieser Form auch in der Türkei nicht gab.

At the beginning of the 1960s, the so-called “guest workers” from Anatolia and other areas of Turkey were recruited to West Germany. From the beginning, there was something that always accompanied them: Independent musical directions developed over the years. Cem Kaya's film is a thrilling ride through decades of music culture in its most moving and dazzling form. Music which had a lasting influence on (post-)migrant and German pop culture. As an expression of longing and protest, joie de vivre and self-assertion. The film let’s us (re-)discover many great musicians through archive recordings and interviews. With artists like Yüksel Özkasap, A??k Metin Türköz, Derdiyoklar, Cem Karaca and many others. (German, Turkish and English with German subtitles)
